Kindergarten Newsletter - November, 2007
Our Fall Open House will be on Wednesday, November 7th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Please mark your calendars and arrive promptly at 6:30. We welcome parents and grandparents but ask that siblings remain home so that your attention can be directed to your Kindergartener. The children have worked so hard and are excited to show you what they have done. They look forward to performing and can not wait to entertain you.
November
In November we will discuss our Native Americans, focusing on the Wampanoag culture. We will talk about Native American legends and how they helped to explain the many mysteries of the natural world. We will talk about the Pilgrims and how they came to our country. We will discuss the many challenges they faced and what life was like for them here.
We will also be discussing family and about being thankful for the many blessings we have. We will talk about ways that we can help others less fortunate than ourselves.
We are currently keeping track of the books we read in class. Once we have read 100 books, Scholastic will donate 100 books in Happy Hollow’s name to children in need.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences will be held the week of November 13th. A sign-up sheet will be available at the Kindergarten Open House.
Reading Corner
The author of the month is Tomie dePaola who has written such books as "Meet the Barkers", "Strega Nona" and "The Quilt Story".
We have finished the second book in the "My Father’s Dragon" trilogy and have begun reading "The Mayflower Treasure Hunt" by Ron Roy. We will also read a book from the Magic Tree House series called "Thanksgiving on Thursday".
We continue practicing our reading and pre-reading skills. We like to read from "Bob books", any level 1 or step 1 reader and a program entitled "Starfall". Please visit starfall.com for alphabet games, on-line books and other companion games to the program we are using.
